Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challenge

AIM: Download the given connector and connector clip cad data from the given link and define it as an electrical connector using an electrical part design workbench. define all the necessary properties of connectors & clips.

Introduction to wiring harness:

A wiring harness is a combination of electrical and mechanical CAD to connect all the electrical parts in the automotive at an optimum level.

Wiring harness Assembly Design:

• First, we download the files from the link in the challenge.
• Open the part design workbench and save the file.
• Then we use the point "In between" command to create a point for the connection points.
• After that, we create an axis system from the point and define orientation.
• Then we switch to the "electrical part design" workbench.
• After that, we define the type of equipment
• At last, we define the necessary points such as the cavity connection point and bundle connection point
• Then, we save the component.

1. Deutsch DT06 - 08SA

Define DT06-08SA connector as electrically defined and updated the electrical properties like bundle entry connection point and connector connection point.

Connection connecting point:

Create a midpoint on the contact face which will be normal to the wire bundle insertion.

Create An axis system to the point that we have created and define the axis direction as shown below.

Define the part as a connector in CATIA, give no. of the terminal as 8 because we have 8 entry points for wire

2. TYCO 174357-2:

• Create a midpoint that would be the connector connection point
• Create a connector connection axis system
• Create a bundle entry connection point
• Create a cavity connection point
• create a cavity connection axis system
• Switch to the Electrical part design and define the part as a connector
• Define connector connection point, Bundle entry point, and cavity connection point.

3. TYCO 85229-1:

• For this part, we have created the point and axis system where the clip will be attached to TYCO 174357-2. Also, we defined the part as a cavity so the software can recognize when we assemble the two parts.

Electrical Assembly:

Connector and clip Catalog
