Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challenge
WIRING HARNESS DESIGN
CHALLENGE 1
Objective:
Define the connectors and for mounting clip in electrically by creating connector connection point and bundle connection point.
Summary:
In the automotive industry, for example, a car's wiring harness includes all the wires and connectors necessary to connect various electrical components like the engine, transmission, lights, sensors, and infotainment systems. This helps simplify the assembly process during vehicle manufacturing and aids in troubleshooting and repair.
Overall, wiring harnesses play a crucial role in ensuring the reliable and efficient transmission of electrical signals and power in a wide range of applications, contributing to the safety and functionality of complex electrical systems.
Wiring Harness Design:
A wiring harness is a set of wires, connectors and terminals that are bundled together to transmits electrical signals and power within a vehicle or other electrical or electronic system. Wiring harness serve several important functions.
Connector:
Connectors are end components used to join wire harnesses and other devices to a circuit or power source to enable their function.
Electrical Wiring Harness:
Download the connectors and connector clips CAD data from the link provide and define it as an electrical connector using electrical part workbench.
Wiring Harness Assembly Structure:
Connector Definition:
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Create a connector point and axis for the connector connection.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Harness Bundle Entry Point: This point defines where the harness bundle segment point will end when routed to the electrical connector.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Cavity Connection Point: This point is used to define the connection of connector and mounting clip. This only applies to connectors which have the mounting feature for a connector clip.
Connector 1: (Deutsch DT06 – 08SA)
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Create connector point and axis in which the connector connects.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Create a point bundle point which all the cables are arranged together using the part workbench.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Switch to the Electrical part design and define the connector in electrical part workbench.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Define connector connection point and bundle point.
Connector 2: (Tyco 174357-2)
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Follow the same procedure for the second connector and in this there is a mounting feature.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->For the mounting feature define the cavity connection point.
Mounting Clip:
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Create a point and the axis in which the mounting place.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Define as a cavity in the electrical part workbench.
Electrical Assembly:
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Assemble the mounting clip to the connector 2 at the mounting feature side.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Switch to the Electrical Assembly Design.
<!-- [if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Use the connect electrical devices option in the assembly design workbench to assemble the connector and connector clip.
