Challenge

Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challenge

AIM:

  • To define Electrical properties of the given components.

OBJECTIVE:

  • To download the above CAD data of the parts from the given source.
  • To define the Electrical properties correctly.
  • To create catalogues of the components so that it can be used later.

CATALOGUE DOCUMENT:

  • First a new 'catalogue document' is created and then add family is selected in order to add the group to the catalogue document.
  • The name of the family is given as the 'connectors' and the catalogue document is saved in the desired folder.
  • After defining the electrical properties, the components are saved in the catalogues so that it can be used in the feature without again defining the electrical properties.

PART - 1: Deutsch DT06 – 08SA:

Step - 1:

  • Identify the Connector Side and the Bundle Side.

CONNECTOR SIDE:

BUNDLE SIDE:

Step - 2:

  • create a mid-point on the bundle side in the Part Design Module to define the Bundle connection .

Step - 3:

  • create a mid-point at the Connector side in the Part Design Module.
  • create an axis system through the point.
  • Define the axis as:
    • X- axis - Towards Locking Mechanism of Clip
    • Y- Axis - Front face of connector
    • Z-Axis - Left or Right Direction of clip

Step - 4:

  • Go to Electrical Part Design to define the Connector connection point and Bundle connection point.

Step - 5:

  • First define the Connector and the number of Termination.
  • Define the Bundle Connection Point.
  • Define the Connector Connection Point.

STEP 6:

  • Save the part and adding it to the catalogue of connector so that it can be use for later used

PART - 3: TYCO 85229 - 1:

Step - 1:

  • Create a mid-point at the location where the mounting equipment will be fitted with the connector.

Step - 2:

  • Create an axis system through the point.
  • Define the axis as per the orientation defined in the connector in which the mounting equipment will be assembled.

Step - 3:

  • Go to the Electrical Part Design  to define the electrical properties.
  • Define the object as the Mounting equipment.
  • Then define the same as cavity.

ELECTRICAL ASSEMBLY OF THE Tyco 174357-2 AND TYCO 85229 - 1 :

As the electrical definitions of the parts are defined correctly they are brought into the product as electrical assembly design and they are connected automatically by using Connect Electrical Device command.

CATALOG DOCUMENT:

CONCLUSION:

From the above challenge learnt knowledge are listed below:

1. Introducing standard parts downloaded from browser as electrical part in catia.

2. adding them to catalog for future use.

3. Using Electrical Assembly to check their automatic connection as per the defined axis and references.
