Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challenge

Q1. Download following connectors & Connector clip cad data from given link & define it as Electrical Connector using Electrical Part design Workbench. Define all the necessary properties to Connectors & Clip.

  1. Deutsch DT06 – 08SA ( https://www.te.com/usa-en/product-DT06-08SA.html)
  2. Tyco 174357-2 (https://www.te.com/usa-en/product-2-174357-2.html?source=header-match)
  3. Tyco 85229-1 – (https://www.te.com/usa-en/product-85229-1.html?q=85229&source=header)

Prepare a proper report with necessary images in the answer box provided

The objective of this project is to first, download the given files from TE.com then define them as an electrical connector or equipment and lastly give all the required electrical properties to them using the electrical part design workbench on CATIA V5.

These are the steps required to do this project-

  1. Create the required geometrical parameters for connector
  2. Create a bundle entry point
  3. If connector accommodates clip then define a geometrical parameter for the clip
  4. Define part as a connector or mounting equipment
  5. Create bundle connection point
  6. Create a connector connection point
  7. Create a cavity connection point if there is a clip

CONNECTOR DEFINITION:-

Following Parameters are required to defined for any connector-

  • Geometry Parameters- Point & Co-ordinate system (Axis)
  • Connector connection points- This point is used for the connection of one connector to another connector.
  • Harness bundle entry point- This point defines where the harness bundle segment point will end when routed to the electrical connector.
  • Cavity connection point (Optional)- This point is used to define the connection of a connector to a connector clip. this only applies to connectors which have the mounting feature for a connector clip.

CONNECTOR 1:- Deutsch DT06 – 08SA

Figure 1- Defining the Connector connection point

Create midpoint on the contact face which will be normal to wire bunddle insertion.

Figure 4- Defining part as a Connector

Define the part as connector in catia, give no. of termination as 8 because we have 8 entry points for wire.

CONNECTOR 2:- Tyco 174357-2

  • Create midpoint
  • create Connector connection point
  • create Connector connection axis system
  • create cavity connection point
  • create cavity connection axis system
  • Switch to Electric part design and define part as connector
  • Define Connector connection point and cavity connection point

CONNECTOR 2:- Tyco 85229-1

  • Create midpoint
  • create cavity connection point
  • create cavity connection axis system and orientation should be same as in connector
  • Switch to Electric part design and define part as Mounting Equipment
  • Define cavity connection point

CLIP AND CONNECTOR ELECTRICAL ASSEMBLY:-

CONCLUSION:- Both the connectors and the clip were defined as an electrical connector and electrical mounting equipment respectively. All the necessary electrical and geometrical properties were given to the parts.
