Door Applique Design with Engineering Features

AIM:

To create the door applique, an aesthetic component of the door trim panel, using the given class A surface and develop the engineering features.

OBJECTIVE:

The door applique component with considering the draft analysis, developing the engineering features to constraint the motion of the applique.

SOFTWARE USED:

Catia V5

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

Initially, the tooling direction is created for the component, for this the inertia measuring tool is used to find the centre of gravity point.

Then the draft analysis on the component is carried out on the component along the tooling direction.

PART MODELING:

B Surface creation:

Now, the B surface is created by extracting the surfaces separately, untrimming, extrapolating and trimming the surfaces together.

Then the surfaces is extrapolated and given an offset of 2.5mm

Likewise other surfaces are extracted ang given offset and then they are trimmed together.

Then fillet is provided accordingly,

C SURFACE:

Then the C surfaces is created by sweeping the edges along the offset direction

Then they are trimmed and joined along with the class A surface.

Finally, after trimming the B surface along with the joined A and C surface the component is given closed body command to make into a closed profile and part.

B SIDE FEATURES:

The B side is where the engineering features are developed. In this applique model, there is a need to locate and fix the component in the substrate. Hence these features are devleoped along the engineering side to make the component constrained and restrict its degree of freedom.

We are generally developing 4 way locators and 2 way locators to restrict the degree of freedom.

Sketch for 4-way locators. These locators are designed with the standards of the rib as their geometrical similarity.

Then 2 way locators to arrest the degree of freedom along the tooling direction component.

The heat stake sketch after constrained,

Then these elements are padded along the tooling direction and then they are assembled onto the main body.

A similar surface is created and then it is thickened to create the similar component as the door applique, this then acts as the substrate for locating and holding the door applique.

Corresponding profiles of the locators and heat stakes are padded and then they are removed using the boolean operations from the substrate component.

The final component along with the substrate

Then the draft analysis on the final component with the engineering features too clearing the draft along the tooling direction.
