Challenge

Week 9 - Parametric study on Gate valve.

Aim:

To perform the parametric study on the gate valve by setting the opening from 10 % to 80%

Methodology:

1) Import the geometry

2)Initially move the gate disc to 10mm upwards

3) extract the volume for simulation

4) pull the length of the inlet and outlet to a certain extent for the feasible simulation.

5) Mesh it

6) Setup conditions for the simulation

7) prepare the parametric study for different lift of the gate disc.

Flow co efficient (Cv) :

In general its valve or pipe capacity for a liquid or a gas to flow through it.

but technically the volume of water at 60F that will flow through a valve per minute is with the pressure drop of 1 psi across the pipe or valve.

Where,
Q - is the flow rate either mass flow rate or volumetric flow rate
SG - is the specific gravity
Del P - is the pressure drop
Flow factor (Kv) :
Flow factor is also the emprical reaction which relates with the Cv as
the value of the mass flow rate is obtained in (Kg/s), where it is converted into ( m^3/hr) by multiplying 3.60 with the accquired flow rate.
with this relation it is possible to find the flow factor to flow coefficient.
The vl=alue of cv and kv
Plot for the Cv and Kv with respect to the gate lift is shown :
Pressure difference of contour :
Velocity difference :
Streamline difference :
Result Intrepretation :
As the gate disc lift opens the mass flow rate is should be high which also the simulation results shows, where there is increase in the flow co efficient also.
Parametric result.
