Challenge

Week 9 - Parametric study on Gate valve.

AIM

to perform a parametric study on the gate valve simulation by setting the opening from 10 % to 80%.

OBJECTIVES

  • Obtain the mass flow rates at the outlet for each design point.
  • Calculate the flow coefficient and flow factor for each opening and plot the graph.
  • Discuss the results of the mass flow rate and flow coefficient.

GATE VALVE is a device used to control the flow rate through the opening or closing of the gate disc the main parts of the device are

bannet

stem

disc

stuffing box

gasket

flange

packing material

spindle

handle wheel

FLOW COEFFICIENT Cv=Q(SG/P2-P1)^0.5

FLOW FACTOR Kv=0.865*Q(SG/P2-P1)^0.5

I.E Kv= 0.865*Cv

CONCLUSION

AS THE GATE VALVE DISC RAISED UP THE RATE OF MASS FLOW THROUGH IT INCREASED AND THE FLOW COEFFICIENT AND FLOW FACTOR TOO SINCE THE MASS FLOW RATE IS DIRCTLY PROPOTIONAL TO FLOW FACTOR AND FLOE COEFFICIENT
