Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge
Machining with planar Challenge:
Aim:To perform explicit dynamics simulation for machining with the planar to find equivalent stress, deformation.
Objective:
You will have to perform an explicit dynamics simulation to find out the Equivalent Stress, Total Deformation and also insert a User defined result to calculate the temperature of the body. You need to perform this for 2 cases. One will be with a cutting velocity of 20000mm/s and the other will be with a cutting velocity of 15000mm/s.
Procedure:
- Firstly open ANSYS workbench software.
- Select explicit dynamics from the analysis system.
- And then import the geometry from the system files.

- Create a explicit material of steel to the workpiece from engineering data.

- Then we proceed for meshing for this we select edge sizing for meshing with 10 no of divisions.

- Select the tetrahedrons for the cutting tool for meshing.

- And in analysis system assign the no of steps as 1 from the below.

- After that assign velocity for the cutting tool as 20000 mm/s for the case 1 along X co-ordinates.

- After that assign fixed support at the bottom end of the workpiece.

- And finally we need to get the solution for
- Total deformation
- Equivalent stress
- User defined result
CASE 1:
Total deformation:
Maximum- 11.037 mm
Minimum- 0

Equivalent stress:
Maximum- 661.38 mpa
Minimum- 0.54525 mpa

User Defined Result(temp):
MAximum- 356.59 'c
Minimum- 21.653'c

CASE 2:
Total Deformation:
Maximum- 32.79 mm
Minimum- 0

Equivalent stress:
Maximum- 666.07 mpa
Minimum- 3.7397 mpa

User defined(temp):
Maximum- 345.29 'c
Minimum- 21.487 'c

Tabular data:
Total Deformation(mm) Equivalent stress(mpa) user Defined result('C)
Max Min Max Min MAx Min
CASE 1 11.037 0 661.38 0.54525 356.59 21.653
CASE 2 32.79 0 666.07 3.7397 345.29 21.487
Conclusion:
from the above tabular data we found that deformation is less for case 1 than that of case 2.And equivalent stress is also less for case 1 than that of case 2.The user defined result for temperature is high for case 1 than that of case 2.
