Week 9 - Challenge 2 - Switch Bezel Design

1.

Draft Analysis: Initially we need to perform the draft analysis for the given Class A surface. The value should be less than 90 degrees on all sides. If the value is 90 degrees while released from the mold product will get damaged due to friction. So we need to maintain a minimum draft angle for the plastic product. The draft angle will be 3 degrees. Draft analysis is performed for the given product there is no negative draft angle.

Tooling direction: After the draft analysis, we need to check for the tooling direction. How the product will be released from the mold without any damage? We need to check for the direction( X, Y, Z). For the given application there is not having any kind of holes or other features. For the given application tooling direction is the Z-axis. Created a point on the bottom surface. Taking a reference created a line in the Z direction. The below picture shows the tooling axis.

Creating The Class - B Surface: Extracting the class - A Surface without the fillets and then untriming and extrapolating them to join them, and after that offset the surface to 2.5 mm thickness which forms as the Class - B surface. And then filleting the edges to 12 mm.

Class -C surface: By extracting the boundary of the class-A surface, the surface required for class - C is obtained.

using the smooth curve option a smooth surface can be obtained by sweeping the line toward the direction of the tooling axis.

Final Trimes: Need to join all the class surfaces together and need to check there it was a closed surface or not, if it is a closed surface we can go for the final trim to get the required shape if it is not we need to join properly.
