Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation (Ribs & Screw Boss) - Challenge 1

AIM:

To design ribs & screw boss on the Drill handle considering every RIB & Screw Boss design rule following in industry.

Introduction:

Class-B surface contains all the engineer data required for the model to be completed. Some of the major features of the B-side are:

FINAL BODY CREATION:

Go to the part body workbench then use close boby tool and finally get close body of base bracket

RIB CREATION:

Rib & Screw Boss are the Engineering Features which is on "B surface”, they have some Design Rules to avoid Plastic defects.

Ribs are thin wall protrusions that extend perpendicularly from a wall or plane. They are usually found in clusters offering support to a plane that would have otherwise been too thick, but can also be stand-alone support for a single wall. They are commonly used to provide additional support and strength to a part. Thickness and location are essential to rib design.

To check for the Rib root thickness, We have to take an Intersection with the XY plane and the Coin holder component. Once we get to the intersection we have to create a tri-tangent circle at the rib area and measure it. The value must be within 30% greater of the wall thickness.

Now create a ribs for the cloesd body, create a sketch for a ribs using axis system. Then pad this sketch and height is 2.5*5. Next use uniontrim with main body, get a ribs for the body

SCREW BOSSES CREATION:

Create sketch for a screw bosses, create circle and pad it.Then pad this sketch, Next use uniontrim with main body, get a screw bosses for the body.

Draft Analysis:

To reduce the risk of damage to parts and tool while ejecting from mold a draft angle is provided to walls which are parallel to the tooling direction. It assists with releasing the part from mold.

CONCLUSION:

Using Class A surface of Door Handle is successfully converted into solid body. And Rib and Screw Boss are created successfully.
