Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
Objective: To create the boss and Dog House for the Centre console coin holder
Steps:
1. Design of screw boss and Dog house
Design rules for screw boss
- Draft - 0.5 degree
- Thickness - we are designing screw boss for M6 screw. Hole size for M6 screw is 5.2 mm. Thicknes is calulated as w = 0.6 times the thickness of the component = 0.6*2.5 = 1.5 mm
Design rules for dog house
- Draft - 0.5 degree
- doghouse wall thickness, C = 40% of main wall thickness = 0.4*2.5 = 1 mm
- Height, B = 4 mm
Screw boss and Dog house are shown below
2. Draft analysis along tooling axis
- Go to Insert - Analysis - Draft analysis. Before that customize view parametr mode to material
- Click on compass icon and align it with the tooling axis. Then click on the surface we will get our results
Surfaces of the supporting ribs of the screw boss are in blue color, indicating . surface in green colour has greater than 3 degree draft. but in the above figure it is observed that inner surfaces of the dog house is in red colour. This problem is solved by providing side core. The axis for the same is created.
3. Draft analysis along side core axis
From the above image it is seen that inner surfaces of the dog house are in green colour indicating easy ejection along side core axis.
