Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

Attachment Feature Creation- Challenge 2

Aim: To design screw boss and dog house in the coin holder considering the engineering features and design considerations.

Objective: To understand the design considerations for creating dog house design and engineering features as well as performing the draft analysis for this.

Design methodology and considerations:

  • Draft should be 0.5 degree
  • Thickness of 40% should be considered of the nominal wall thickness
  • Height of the Dog house should be 3-6mm considering 3 times the diameter.

Design Methodology

To design dog house, the base surface is extracted and it is offset to the given distance and one more offset is given to the greater distance upto the top edge of the dog house.

After that, a sketch is created accordingly in order to created the dog house and it is extruded with the help of extrude surface command.

It is thickened to 2.5 mm and then the draft of 0.5 degree is applied to the three faces and the edges are given the fillet value.

The initial surface of dog house is offset to 1-1.5mm outside and then these surfaces are trimmed using trim surface command to create an undercut of the dog house followed by drafting of 0.5 degree

Finally, this body is split and an undercut is made

For creating the screw boss, crossed lines are created and it is thickened and finally this screw boss is fit on top of dog house using union trim with the dog house. Screw boss created is also given the draft of 0.5 degree.

Draft Analysis

Draft analysis for the component is created with reference to the tooling direction for dog house for different angles.
