DESIGN METHODOLOGY AND DESCRIPTION

PROPELLOR

Propellor blades are used to displace water which helps the boat in moving forward by creating the forces of blades. The propellor creates a torque that help in turning the blades.

It is designed in solidworks by creating a spline and a line with a centreline and then it is revolved along the centreline

After that, a plane is created with offset distance of 360 mm and from that plane , a loft is created in the solid body with the help of the sketch created by new plane and the previous sketch.

After that, fillet is created at the corners of blade and a cut extrude is made made at the back flat surface of revolve.

The next step is to create fillets at the edges of the blade and a circular pattern of six blades at an angle of 360 degrees is made.

The features used are

  1. Revolve: This feature is used to revolve any sketch about a centre line.
  2. Loft: Loft boss is used to create a solid body using two sketched and giving the according the shape of the sketches.
  3. Offset plane: This feature is used to create a plane with reference to the given surfaces or planes at some distance.
  4. Fillet: This feature is used to make a corner or edge in round.
  5. Circular Pattern: This feature is used to create a pattern or number of similar sketches/bodies along a point/line.

BLUEPRINT SETUP:

Blueprint setup is the most important step in creating a Surface modelling. The various parts of Yacht are created with the help of this blueprint setup such as Hull, Front Sear, Middle Seat, Rear Seat, Superstructure, Radar Mast.

To create a Blueprint Setup, first of all the sketch pictures was inserted in the specific planes such as Blueprint front view in front plane, Blueprint top view in top plane etc. In Blueprint setup, there are 5 different views as Blueprint Front View, Blueprint Side View, Blueprint Top View, Blueprint Bottom View, Blueprint Back View. Back View and Bottom View are created by taking an offset plane. Various Views of Blueprint are setup by inserting sketch pictures and adding various dimensions to set the blueprints

RADAR

Radar is used to detect the signals to your current location. It works by sending out the radio signals.

To design the radar in solid works, a sketch is made and its extruded according to the given dimensions. After that a large fillet is created on one of the edges and a small fillet to the opposite side of this edge.

After that, a boss extrude is made at the smaller cross section of the of the radar and its smoothen with the help of the fillet.

After that a mirrored feature is created to mirror the whole body and a text is carved with the help split line operation

At last, a hole is created at the mid with the help of creating a sketch and cut extrude and it’s filleted along the edges.

Features used to make a radar:

  • Boss Extrude: Boss Extrude is used to create a 2D sketch to 3D modelling.
  • Fillet: Fillet is used to make the corners and edges smooth in circular radius.
  • Cut Extrude: This feature is used to remove some material from a solid body with the help of sketch
  • Mirror: Mirror is used to make the similar body/feature along a face/plane.
  • Split line: Split line is used to make a line and separate the bodies.

    HULL

Hull is the part of yacht that rides in both in and top of the water. This is the body of direct contact with water. Hull is the base of the whole yacht body.

Hull in solidworks is created with the help of blueprint setup. First of all , the unnecessary blueprints are hided and the sketches.

Various projected curves are made in the midplane. A loft surface is created with the help of these curves. With the help of surface extrudes and surface trims, the front portion is created where propellor has to be attached. The surfaces created till now are knitted with the help of knit surface command. After that, the offset of the top edge is created and its filled with the help of filled surface command.

Again, offset is done with the help of internal surface and the railings were created with reference to the blueprint. The windows are made with the help of extrude cut and sweep command. Cut extrude was created at the backside to add stairs. After that stairs were made with the help of sketch and extrude command. Again, by inserting a plane, the railings are created for the stairs. The edges are smoothened with the help of fillets.

In the inside surface, various extrude bodies are made with the help of helix, sweep, sketches and extrude commands. The edges are smoothened with the help of fillets.

All the details are and the surface is converted to the solid body and then the whole body is mirrored along the midplane.
