Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

AIM- Create the screw boss and dog house for the centre console coin holder considering the design rules.

INTRODUCTION

ATTACHMENT FEATURES:

1. SCREW BOSS :-

Boss features are commonly found in injection molding designs. They are used to aid in the assembly of molded parts by providing a channel for a screw.

2. DOG HOUSE:-

Dog house is an engineering feature used in plastic trim design. They are used as supporting features. Sometimes other engineering features like snaps, locators etc. are mounted on them to increase their strength

for this project i am using previous Model of Center Console Coin Holder to create the attachment features on it. since we are using previous component we have alredy created the main tooling axis just we need to create the lifter axis. for the lifter axis we used the point which we used for main tooling axis and direction of z-component.

now draw the sketch for screw boss on the bottom side extracted face.

pad it to make a solid body of the sketch

then draw another sketch for the ribs with same sketch support.

now pad this to make solid body out of it

now by using union trim option adding this ribs with the screw boss by excluding unwanted faces

now drafting the screw boss and the ribs with 0.5 deg draft

copying and translating the same screw boss to the other side

now creating a dog house

first of all draw the sketch for the dog house

now extract the sketch using sweep option and offest the bottom in upward direction and then trim it to create the complete surface of dog house

now using thick surface to make a solid body and then split it with offseting back surface to make a complete dog house applying dressing features to it. Now adding draft to the inner sides of the dog house

Offsetting extract by 4mms (because height of B in doghouse should be between 3-6mm)

now trimming both the surfaces by trimming tool

now split this surface with the dog house

and finally assemble it with the coin holder and applying the dressing features.

Giving draft to the underpart which was left out translating already made screw boss to top of doghouse.
