Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
CHALLENGE 1
ATTACHMENT FEATURES CRATION (DOG HOUSE)
AIM: To create the Dog house for the door trim considering the design the rules mentioned in the challenge.
Create the close body for the given class A surface and create the dog house and follow some procedures and rules.
- TOOLING AXIS
- CLASS B
- CLASS C
- FINAL BODY
- DOG HOUSE
Given class A

From this class A we can create the tooling axis.
TOOLING AXIS:
Tooling axis is the direction in which the core and cavity opens in the tooling direction.
- Extract one flat surface, create a point.
- Insert a new axis system and intersect the component with the XY plane.
- Create the lines at both sides and create a bisecting line form them.

Bisecting line is the tooling axis for the given component and next is to perform the draft analysis.
DRAFT ANALYSIS:
Draft analysis technique is used to analyse the whether our part model created in CAD is manufacturable based the draft condition applied.
- First go with the draft analysis command and place the compass at the tooling axis and click the compass option in the draft analysis table.
- Click on the component and some colour changes in the component.
CLASS B:

CLASS C:

FINAL BODY:

Next is to create an feature called dog house.
DOG HOUSE:
Dog house is an engineering feature used in plastic design. Dog houses are used as support feature. Sometimes other engineering features like snaps, locators, screw bosses are mounted on them to increase their strength.
Dog houses are subjected to draft analysis to prevent breakage of the component during ejection from the mould cavity. Dog house and other engineering components are built on the B-surface.
Design rules for the dog house:
- Dog houses are designed to avoid SINK MARK created on the CLASS-A surface by screw bosses and to solve the length issues when giving screw bosses which need to be assembled to other components.
- It is also useful when perpendicular screw bosses are required on the part to the tooling direction.
- C thickness should be 40% of the main wall thickness T
- Minimum width of the dog house is 12 mm.
- Minimum draft for the do house is 1.5 degree to die draw.

Procedure for the dog house;
- Create a rectangular block and then pad it.
- Draft the sides of the block at 1.5 deg.
- Perform the shell operation at which side not drafted and bottom and the side surface.
- Extract the inner side surfaces and also the class A component which intersect the dog house.
- Offset the bottom surface and trim the both extracted surfaces at 1mm
- Split the surface with block and create the dog house
- trim the extra face at the bottom with union trim.
