Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1
RIB DESIGN
Objective: The objective of this challenge is to create a Rib Design on the console coin holder with draft analysis and apply proper design rules for the Rib.
Define: Rib provides a means of economical stiffness and strength without increasing overall wall thickness. The rib is the B-side feature creation.
- It is locating and arresting components of the assembly.
- It provides alignment in mating parts.
- acting as stops or guides for machines.
General Guidance for the Rib design:
- Height: 5 times the component thickness
- Thickness: 0.4 times the component thickness
- Draft angle: It must be 0.5 deg
- Spacing between two ribs: Y/x =>3
- Thickness at Tip:0.75 time of component thickness
- Optimal Radius: 0.25 time of component thickness
- Design suggestion:
1. Height of the Rib: It must be 5 times the component thickness. The thickness of the component is 2.5 and it multiplies by five (5x2.5=12.50).

2. Thickness of the Rib: Thickness: 0.4 times the component thickness (0.4x2.5=1).

3. Draft angle: It must be 0.5 deg

4. Spacing between two ribs: Y/x =>3

5. Thickness at Tip:0.75 mm at least.

6. Optimal Radius: 0.25 time of component thickness

Design suggestion:

Draft analysis: Now we check the draft analysis for ribs and the component we have a draft angle of 0.5 for the ribs so we took the 0.48-degree draft angle for the analysis.
