Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1
AIM: To create the ribs for the center console coin holder considering the design rules
Ribs:
Ribs are a feature in plastic injection molded parts. They are thin extensions that run perpendicular from a wall or plane. They are commonly used to provide additional support and strength to a part. Thickness and location are essential to rib design.Ribs are indispensable functional structures on many plastic parts. It can effectively improve the rigidity and strength of plastic parts like the H beam. Ribs can also act as internal flow passages to aid in the plastic melt filling flow, which is of great help to the formation of complex and large plastic parts.Ribs are thin, wall-like features typically designed into the geometry of a part to add internal support to walls or other features like bosses. In a similar fashion, gussets are support features that reinforce areas such as walls or bosses to the floor.

Procedure:
The ribs creation is started with the extraction of the plane over.

on this plane the line is drawn that will be then extruded along the direction of tooling axis to a height of 12.5mm as per design rule of H=5*t

this line is thickened by 1 mm since the rib thickness has to be 0.4*t.The thickness ribs is drafted by 0.5degrees.
Another rib is created at the spacing of 2*t design rule and assembled to the coin holder, both ribs are provided with fillets of 0.25 mm

checking the ribs design:
Inorder to check the dimension of the ribs, the coin holder is intersecting along xy plane to obtain the boundary axis.

Root analysis:
For root analysis,a tritangent circle is created from the outline of the ribs and base surface, and then the circle dimension is measured as below

Height:

Tip thickness:

Results:
The ribs of the center console coin holder has been successfully created as per design rules.
