Attachment Feature Creation - 1

AIM

To create the rib for the center console coin holder considering the design rules.

THEORY

Design Rules for Rib creation

  • Nominal wall thickness of the plastic component should be 3 mm.
  • A deviation of ±30$ from the wall thickness is accepted.
  • Ideal draft for a component is 3 degrees.
  • Minimum 0.5 degree of draft is accepted in ribs.

Design Rule for space between ribs.

Ribs should be spaced so that the steel between the ribs is at a height : width ratio of 3:1 for steel , 2:1 is preferred.

Procedure

Step 1.

First import the coin holder into the Catia Workbench

Step 2.

For creating the rib on the coin holder , first extract the base which the ribs are to be constructed.

Step 3.

Using the positioned sketch command, construct a line , define its dimensions and output it as a feature.

Step 4.

Extrude the line using extrude command

Step 5.

Create a new Body then go to the part design workbench and thicken the extrude surface.

Step 6.

After that give a draft of 0.5 degrees to the thickened rib. After giving draft make sure that the top thickness of the draft is greater than 0.75 mm

Step 7.

Fillet the rib surfaces with a radius of 0.25 mm on all faces.

Step 8.

Now assemble the rib body with coin holder body .

Step 9.

Now create another rib with a distance of 2:1 ratio to the first rib.

Distance between the rib can be obtained by :

Y/X =2

Where,

Y = height of the rib = 12.5 mm

X = distance between the ribs

X= 12.5/2

Y= 6.25 mm

Step 10.

After creating the second rib at the obtained distance , assemble it with the coin holder body then create an intersection of the body on the XY plane for determining the rib root thickness.

Step 11.

Create a circle by tritangent method. Measure the diameter of the circle and thickness of the body.

Step 12.

Perform a draft analysis on the body.

Result

Ribs are created on the coin holder model following all the design rules
