Challenge

Week 8 - Universal Joint

AIM:

For this challenge, you will have to perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring using three different materials: Structural Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium alloy(They can all be found in the General Materials section) The three materials must be used on the joint with the springs alone. Use a refined mesh if possible for the academic license. You need to obtain the Equivalent stress and total deformation for all the three cases and compare them. Submit a report regarding the same.

PROCEDURE:

  • Open the Ansys work bench and import the given model.
  • Edit the Engineering Data files and add the material properties like Structural steel, stainless steel,Titanium Alloy from the given Engineering Data files.
  • Open the Edit space claim and modify if any surfaces were missing or any defatures in the surfaces.
  • Then Edit the given model in the model tab.
  • And rename the components according to the parts.
  • After that delete the contats in the given model.
  • Create the joints in the model using Revolue joints,Trasnilation joints,Fixed Joints.
  • Then the mesh the model with the Target Element length of 10mm.
  • Give the Analysis setting og the time interval of 5 steps and Click on the weak spring on,Large deformation on output controls on in the model.
  • Give the Joint Rotation to the Ground to Body and give the angle for the Rotation.
  • Give the output block of the large deformation, stress, strain.
