Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

OBJECTIVE

The objective of the project is to design the switch bezel core and cavity to do a draft analysis for it by creating the required tooling direction with parting line and parting surface.

INTRODUCTION

The control panel bezel is the frame part of the window switch that holds its switch covers and buttons into place. Moulding is the method used to manufacture the plastic trims of an automotive by most OEM’s, hence by considering the manufacturing consideration the switch bezel is designed.

DESIGN CONSIDERATION

  • Class – A surface should be aesthetically smooth and good.
  • Class – B surface should have all the supporting features like ribs.
  • Parting Line should coincide with the B surface since flashing couldn’t affect the aesthetic of Class – A.
  • Class – C surface should also pass the draft analysis.
  • After done the complete model to create the core and cavity for inspect they designed model is depends on DFM and DFA.

PROCEDURE FOR CREATING THE SWITCH BEZEL CORE AND CAVITY

STEP:1

  • After complete the model to do draft analysis then create the core and cavity.
  • create the new geomentrical set and select (cre and cavity) the A+C and B surface to unhide
  • To do trim the A+c and B surface get the shape for creating the core and cavity.

The output of after trimming A+c and B trimming surface.

STEP :2

To create the axis in axis line cordinate point and select the top plane to draw the sketch and do iso constrain then extrude the sketch in surface and to do trim the excess portion.

STEP :3 TO CREATE A CAVITY:

TO select the sketch and do iso constrain then extrude the sketch in surface and to do trim the excess portion.

CONVERT SURFACE TO SOLID

After done the core and cavity in surface to convert the solid. to select the part design. Then create to bodies and select the core and cavity surface to convert in solid use close surface command in surface tool
