Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

AIM:

The aim of this project is to design a core and cavity block for the the given Class A surface of Switch bezel by considering 2.5mm of thickness which already designed.

CORE AND CAVITY BLOCKS:

In a typical injection molding machine, one half of the mold (the A-side) is attached to the fixed side of the press, and the other half of the mold (the B-side) is attached to the moving clamp side of the press. The clamp (or B) side contains the ejection actuator, which controls the ejector pins. The clamp forces the A and B-sides together, molten plastic is injected into the mold and allowed to cool, the clamp pulls the B-side of the mold away, the ejection pins are actuated, and the part releases from the mold. The blocks on each side are known as Core and Cavity Block respectively.

Steps involved in design of Core and Cavity Blocks:

DESIGN OF CORE BLOCK:

Create a boundary of the given Class A surface and extrapolate it for required possible value.

Extend the Surface and trim with Class C Surface:

Now Trim the Class C surface and obtained surface to get the required Parting Surface.

Make a Sketch Perpendicular to the Tooling Axis and draw a rectangle and extrute it along tooling direction.

Now Trim the unwanted surface.

Fill the Top opened surface and make a closed body. the body can be called as Bore block which used in Injection molding process.

CAVITY Design:

Trim the Class B surface and extruded Block which extruded along Tooling Direction.

Close the Body by using Fill Command and make it a closed Body. This body can be named as Cavity Block.

CONCLUSION:

Hence the design of core and Cavity block has done by using the Given Class A surface.
