Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

CORE AND CAVITY DESIGN

OBJECTIVE: In this project, we do core and cavity design and also study or analysis about the parting and surface line and core and cavity.

CORE & CAVITY: A core is in projection and the cavity is in depression as shown in the above figure is known as Core and Cavity.

In this, we will design this area whose as shown in the figure is the core and cavity area.

Core Area: This area is highlighted as a core area as shown in the figure below. It is in projection

Cavity Area: This area is highlighted as a core area as shown in the figure below. It is in depression.

Process:

  • First we design the core side. Take the A-class surface then apply boundary after that give the extrapolate.
  • This thickened surface is also considered in the core side.

  • Then we need all surfaces like surfaces A, B, and C and we should trim that and make the core.
  • If you can see from the top side with tooling direction the surface of C so it is core side otherwise Cavity side.
  • Splitting surface/ Parting surface: This surface is highlighted as a split surface of the core and the cavity is known as splitting surface as shown in the figure.

  • Core block: In core design, we first drow sketch then we extrude in the tooling direction it sketch must be lying on the parting surface. then we filled that area and trim then closed it.

  • Cavity block: In core design, we first drow sketch then we extrude in the tooling direction it sketch must be lying on the parting surface. then we filled that area and trim then closed it.
