Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design
Core and Cavity Design
Aim: To design the core and cavity block for the switch bezel created in previous challenges.
Objective: To understand the concepts of core and cavity and how to create it with the help of software in Catia V5 and perform the draft analysis for this.
Design methodology and requirement:
Tooling axis
First of all, tooling is created in a proper direction and then various references are taken through this tooling axis.

After the tooling axis created, the draft analysis of the solid body is done.

Core and cavity design for Switch Bezel
Cores are the elements used to provide hollow cavities and holes in the pattern which are difficult or non-profitable to be given after the casting is done by machining.
The sequence of events during the injection mould of a plastic part is called the injection moulding cycle. The cycle begins when the mould closes, followed by the injection of the polymer into the mould cavity.
A parting surface is a surface that separates the mold block into two parts – the core and the cavity.
Design of core and cavity
First of all, a parting surface is created with help of switch bezel and extrapolate and extract command With the help of solid body and the surface extensions as well as sweep operations and the two closed surfaces are formed, one above and below both the bodies are separated using translate command.
