Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

AIM:

To model the core and cavity block of the switch bezel mould.

OBJECTIVE:

The core and cavity creation after analysing the A and C surface, create the partition line and surface where the core and cavity comes together.

PARTING LINE AND SURFACE:

The parting surface is the intermediate surface between the core and the cavity part of the mould. This surface splits the mould into two halves. While the parting line traces out the borderline of the parting surface, the line splitting the core and cavity of the mould.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

From the draft analysis carried out, the tooling direction clears out the part.

CORE AND CAVITY DESIGN:

PARTNG SURFACE

Initially, the boundary of the class A surface is extracted and the class A is extrpolated to trim with the class C surface.

This extra surface area outside the component is where the core and cavity is separated.

CORE BLOCK:

Then, recangular sketch is made on the extapolated surface i.e the parting surface.

This sketch is then extruded along the normal component and then trimmed with the component to give out the projection feature.

The same procedure is carried out for the cavity part to give the depression feature to it.

Then the intersection between the component and the B surface is taken out as this is where the parting surface is created.

Splitting the parting surface with this line will give the actual parting surface removing the component.

Then the core and cavity blocks are given closed body command to make a solid component.
