Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Coin Holder Design

Coin Holder Design

Objective: To design the coin holder with the help of Class A surface given as a skin data and creating the class B and Class C Surface with the help of that and performing the draft analysis using generative shape designing feature of Catia V5.

Software and program used:

Generative Shape Designing in Catia V5 and part designing.

Design methodology and requirements:

  • The given skin data is extracted and the tooling axis for coin holder is created.
  • For tooling axis, the model is intersected with the plane perpendicular to the axis system.

Again, the model is intersected with another plane the final tooling axis is created by bisection both the lines created and named as tooling axis.

  • After that, class B surface is created by first creating the side walls followed by the top walls base, initial trims and outer flange.
  • Finally, Class C surface is created, by extracting the boundary of class A and performing the sweep operation such that to intersect the Class B surface and if not intersected then the surface is extrapolated.

  • Finally, the intersected surfaces are trimmed with the help of trim sheet command and hence a closed surface is formed.
  • The closed surface is converted to the solid part body with the help of close surface command.
