Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 2 - Switch Bezel Design

OBJECTIVE

Create the Switch Bezel Plastic component through the given Class-A surface.

CLASS A SURFACE

Class A surface mean the surface of a component which is smooth or visible side to human eye after the part is assembled. It is refers as the aesthetic surface of a Vehicle.

TOOLING AXIS

Tooling axis is the direction in which the mold and cavity opens and closes in the injection molding operation.

PROCEDURE TO CREATE TOOLING AXIS

1- Creation of 1st Bisecting Line

  • We have created an intersection and taken the reference line of that intersection
  • Then we have drawn two line on the reference line of the part. Make sure the two lines are coincide with the intersection line
  • We have created bisecting line using these two line and the center point as shown in the below image

2- Creation of 2nd Bisecting line

  • We have created an intersection and taken the reference line of that intersection
  • We have created two line on that reference line of the part
  • We have created a line from the axis point with the angle of 5 deg.

3- Then we have created a bisecting line using 1st and 2nd bisecting line and the center axis point that line will our TOOLING AXIS.

CREATION OF CLASS B SURAFACE

Class B surface is used for Engineering purpose. All the design parameter are done on the Class B surface.

CREATION OF CLASS C SURFACE

Class C surface is used to join the Class A and Class B surface together.

FINAL TRIM

We trimmed Class A, Class B and Class C together to create the final product.

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Draft analysis is done to know wheather the part will be easily manufacturable by the given draft angle or not. It will ensure that the part will not stuck in the core and cavity.

PROCEDURE TO PERFORM DRAFT ANALYSIS:-

  1. Right Click on Tab < Go to Analysis < Feature Draft analysis
  2. Put the View Mode in material option
  3. Align the compass with the tooling direction line
  4. The surface will turn into green colour it means the part is manufacturable with the given draft angle.
