Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
OBJECTIVE:- Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.
WHEEL ARCH:- It is a semi circular shaped part of the vehicle body which allow the wheel to be steered or accessed in a covenient angle. It is important to desgin the wheel arch correctly for the safety of pedestrians to keep them safe chipped road particle and it is considered as styling purpose also. To fulfil the design requirement and the safety of pedestrian there are different regulation from different region across world.
JAPAN REGULATION:-
1- Measure clearance of L of tire, hub, cap and fender in three different position within area K and produce clearance check chart to validate.
2- Clearance must be greater than 5 mm from all the three positions.
3- Wheel guard requirement:- The value of a shall be more than 5mm at a line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of axis of wheel.

US REGULATION:-
1- Make clearance check detail from all postion from -100* to 100* and make the clearance check table.
2- All values should be greater than 5mm to satisfy the regulation.
3- The value of 'a' shall be more than 5mm at a line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of axis wheel.

EUROPEAN REGULATION:-
1- Measure CL L at section SA-SA and SB-SB SC-SC SD-SD SE-SE and produce CL check chart to validate.
2- At all five section the CL L value should be greater than 10mm to satisfy the european regulation.
3- Wheel guard requirement:- The value of 'a' shall be more than 5mm at a line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of axis wheel.

Below calculation is based on European regulation:-
PROCEDURE:-
1- Draw a center point of wheel and create a datum plane on the center of the wheel.

2- Draw the lines as per the european regulation along with the given dimension.

3- Then use the measure distance tool and measure the 'L' clearance between the lines and wheel arch. The clearance between SA line and wheel arch is 9.9489mm.

4-The clearance between SB line and wheel arch is 10.00mm.

5-The clearance between SC line and wheel arch is 0.113667mm.

6-The clearance between SD line and wheel arch is 2.9479mm.

7- The clearance between SE line and wheel arch is 6.0395mm.

RESULT TABLE:-
| SECTION | REQUIRED CLEARANCE | ACTUAL CLEARANCE | RESULT(PASS/FAIL) |
| SA | 10mm | 9.9489mm | FAIL |
| SB | 10mm | 10.00mm | PASS |
| SC | 10mm | 0.113667mm | FAIL |
| SD | 10mm | 2.9479mm | FAIL |
| SE | 10mm | 6.0395mm | FAIL |
CONCLUSION:-
From the above calculation and measurement we can see that this fender doesn't qualify for the european regulation as the clearance between section line and fender arch is not minimum 10mm. All section line must be maintan minimum 10mm gap but only the SB line has the clearance of 10mm.
