Week 8 - Challenge 2 - Switch Bezel Design

AIM: To create the Switch Bezel Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

PROCEDURE :

  • Class A Surface as a input was given to us.

  • The first step is to create a Tooling axis, to create it, we have to first extract the base surface and then by point and axis system, and by bisecting the two sides of the walls, we created a dummy line. Now, since there are 3 walls is there, so we need to create another dummy line with respect to the 3rd line as well. Now, by bisecting the two dummy lines, we have created a Tooling axis.

  • Now, its time for Class B Surface. To make a class B surface, we need to extract each surface of class A one at a time and then untrim it as well as extrapolate it to certain extent. After extrapolation, here we are asked the thickness of 2.5mm, so by using offset command, we need to offset it to 2.5mm from that previous surface, and then trim the offset surface.

  • Now, to create Class C surface, we need to consider the Class A surface again. We need to extract both sides of the boundary of Class A with tangent propagation. Then, by the help of sweep command, we created class C surface on both sides of the boundary but since, we created boundary with tangent propagation, so there are many lines created in between the Class C. So, to avoid that, we used smooth curve option and then used extrapolate option in required places.

  • Now, it is time for final join, for that we have consider Class A surface and Class C surface to join them. And then finally, trim with Class B surface to create the final surface.

  • At the end, we need to do one final thing, which is draft analysis.
