Week 8 - Challenge 2 - Switch Bezel Design

A detailed report should be done explaining the draft analysis and the tooling axis creation.

Aim:- To create tooling axis and analyse component with draft analysis.

Introduction:-

  1. Tooling axis:- It is axis about which component is being manufacturer. Core moves along with this axis. It gives the direction of ejection of component.
  2. Draft analysis:- It ensures sufficient inclination to be provided to surfaces of part. Sufficient draft ensures easy removal of part from core and cavity. This has to be carried out before part is send to CAE.

Procedure:-

  1. Tooling axis creation:- Following are the steps involved in tooling axis creation
  1. Check for continuity of given class-A
  2. Visual check for tooling axis and create dummy tooling axis
  3. Sketch on one of the plane parallel to dummy tooling axis
  4. Intersect class-A with sketched plane
  5. Draw lines coincidence with inclined surafces
  6. Two lines we need to bisect to gain output line in this plane
  7. Sketch on other plane parallel to dummy tooling axis
  8. If one side is open, then we need to give minimum draft from inclined surface that is with minimum angle from intersected sketch
  9. In case of single surface, we need to consider that line which is inclined from a surface with minimum draft angle
  10. Bisecting the output lines obtained from both the planes gives tooling axis

b. Draft analysis:- Following steps has to be follow for draft analysis

  1. First of all we need to activate material from customize view parameter section
  2. Using draft analysis tool, we need to alined co-ordinate system with tooling axis and lock it
  3. Then by clicking on surface of part we can see colour shading
  4. Green colour tells us passing of surfaces in draft analysis, that is they have minimum draft angle needed
  5. Red colour shows rejected surfaces
  6. While blue colour shows passing of minimum draft angle but in reverse tooling axis
  • Screenshots of the Draft analysis report for both the given Class-A surface and the final plastic component
  • Component:-

  • Screenshots of the solid model with the proper color code of the draft angle in various orientations (Isometric, Front, Side, and Top View)
