Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover

AIM: Creating the tooling axis for the Fan cover model with a suitable draft angle and performing the Draft analysis on the model.

PROCEDURE:

STEP 1: Ensure there is no gap between the two neighboring surfaces.

Operations>Boundary>definition>select component

STEP 2:

Tooling Axis: The tooling axis is the direction in which mold or core and cavity are opened. We have to check all possible tooling directions in all three axes. When we are deciding the tooling axis. we have to make sure that all the faces should be visible to that tooling axis, no face should be hidden. For this component, the Z-axis will be the best tooling axis as we can see all the faces of the component and can be cleared in the x and y-axis direction.

STEP 3: Create a point and extrude a line from it so that we have clarity that we are working in the right direction, that is the z-axis direction.

STEP 4: Insert the Axis System to the point to see the X-Y-Z plane.

Toolbar>Insert>Axis System

STEP 5: Intersection line along the XZ plane of the component

Wireframe>Intersection>select xz plane>select component

STEP 6: Creating point to point extended line on both sides of the fan cover.

STEP 7: Creating Tool clearing line to X direction by Bisecting line type. Selecting two extended lines and point

STEP 8: Intersection line along the YZ plane of the component

Wireframe>Intersection>select yz plane>select component

STEP 9: Creating point to point extended line on both sides of the fan cover.

STEP 10: Creating Tool clearing line to X direction by Bisecting line type. Selecting two extended lines and point

STEP 11: Creating tooling axis by Bisecting two lines that are tooling clearing X direction and tooling clearing Y direction.

STEP 12: Rename, change color and give thickness to the tooling axis so that it can be easily identified.

STEP 13: Publish Tooling Axis and Fan Cover Component.

Select the main z-axis in model tree>Toolbar>tools>publication>ok

STEP 14: Changing view mode to the material.

View mode>view mode customisation>tick material>ok

STEP 15: Giving or Checking Draft Analysis.

Toolbar>Insert>Analysis>Feature Draft Analysis

STEP 16: Drag the compass from the draft analysis box on the tooling axis and place it properly and click on locks so the compass will get locked to the tooling axis.

STEP 17: Checking draft angles to suitable degrees, exceeded degrees, and negative degrees.

  • A fan cover degree from 1 to 9 is suitable and it will show green color on the component.
  • If the fan cover degree exceeded 9 will show Blue color on the component.

  • If we reverse the direction of the compass from the draft analysis dialog box the values of degrees become negative and it will show us Red color on the component.

CONCLUSION: If the whole component is showing Green color then our component is ready for manufacturing.
