Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

BASE BRACKET DESING :-

Aim-

Create the Base Bracket Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

Given Class A Surface-

For Tooling Axis-

First ensure the class-A surface is properly joined and has no discontinuity on it. For this we can use boundary command or join command.

Analyze the model manually or visually to see which direction is most suitable for tooling axis.

As in 3D view we can see 2 holes and a flat surface, we can directly take the tooling axis perpendicular to that. But to be sure, let us analaze from all the views. The below images of the front side and top views shows the areas that we have to keep in mind while choosing tooling axis.

X Axis View-

As from X axis view we cannot see one hole so we cannot take axis along this. If We use tooling axis on this direction then side core have to use for this part, that will be costliere.

Y Axis View-

In Y axis view we cannot see any holes so here too we cannot take tooling axis and as X axis tooling direction here also side core will be used, if tooling direction is along Y.

Z Axis View-

But in Z we can see 2 holes and flat surface so we can take tooling axis. In this tooling axis no side core will be used.

Surface Analysis-

ZX Plane-

From the above image we can see that there is no surface that can create problem during tooling in this direction.

ZY Plane-

So in this image we are unsure of these 4 surfaces, out of which number 3 & 4 are preaty close to the hole. Visualy we can say that surface 3 & 4 will not create issu. We have to intersect ZY plane with this surface.

On This intersection line two line will be created along 1 & 2 sirface.

A bisecting line will be created with these two line. And that will be the tooling axis.

Draft Analysis -

For Draft Analysis, first go to 'Insert'>'Analysis'>'feature draft analysis'. Align the tooling axis with the compass. Click on the surface and see that the surface is within the permissible limit of the draft values. The surface should be green and in the column proper value (3deg) should be inserted.

Class B-

To create Class B surface 3 side of rib surface of two ribs and base surface have to offset 2.5MM down side and extrapolet accoringly. Then trim all the extrapolated surfaces with each other. And then make fillet on required edges with proper dimenssion. Here 5.5MM radius will be used to do fillet operation, because fillets are being done outward the parent surface. For that formula is (radius of parent fillet + thickness)= 3+2.5=5.5(in this case).

Class C-

For creating Class a surface first extract the boundary of the class-A surface. Extract the boundary of the holes on the class-A surface. Use sweep command on the boundaries one by one to get the class-C surface.
