Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

AIM:

To create a Base Bracket Plastic Component through a given Class A Surface and perform Draft Analysis on the final plastic component.

OBJECTIVES:

Creation of Tooling Axis.

Creation of Class B and Class C surface.

Creating a solid part out of SURFACE MODELING.

Draft Analysis of Class A surface and final plastic component.

Tool Used: CATIA V5

DRAFTING:

When developing parts for plastic injection molding, applying draft (or a taper) to the faces of the part is critical to improving the moldability of your part. Without it, parts run the risk of poor cosmetic finishes, and may bend, break, or warp due to molding stresses caused by the plastic cooling. Equally important, an absence of draft may prevent parts from ejecting from the mold, damaging not only the parts, but possibly the mold itself—a costly and time-consuming detour.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

The Draft Analysis command enables you to detect if the part you drafted will be easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on color ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values.

PROCEDURE:

TOOLING AXIS:

Created a dummy axis and Intersection on the Base Bracket.

Analysis the model manually or visually to see which direction is most suitable for tooling axis.

Now we need to create the tooling axis for the base bracket model. Visually check which direction is better for creating tooling axis. First create a dummy tooling axis in Z direction.

above line 1 is dummy tool axis

*Now create lines through the walls of a base bracket using point to point option with the help of intersect 1 where you think the tooling might create problem. And using these 2 lines create a bisecting line from reference point in Z direction. This will form a main tooling axis in Z direction

Go for draft analysis and use compass for draft direction and select the tooling axis.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

The green colour in this analysis shows that our model is passed in the analysis and also indicated the drafting angle 2.9 deg and above 2.9 deg.

Red color indicates the angle 0 degree draft angle.

blue color indicates the negative draft angle.

CLASS B SURFACE:

we have to create class B surface for that we need to extract the different surfaces of class A then we have to untrim it and then we have to extrapolate the surface and then using the trim tool we have to trim extrapolated surface to get required design.

then untrim those three extracs in using untrim command

after that extropol that 3 surface

then trimed those 3 surface in the extended surface.

the trimmed surface will be ofseted 2.5 mm respectively for the thickenss purpose.

the same process is followed for the opposite rib surface.

then the centre plate and the outer surface will be doit in same process

then the 3 surface are rib-1 and rib-2 and centre plate abd outer surface are to be trimmed then the surface will be creater for 2.5 mm ofseted surface.

then give the edge fillet for the edges the value of edge fillet is calculated in edge fillet of a surface and the thickness of the plate are 5.5 mm

CLASS C SURFACE:

GET THE BOUNDARY LINE USING THE CLASS A SURFACE

THEN SWEEP THE BOUNDARY LINE FOR 3 DEGREE TOOLING ANGLE

same process is using for the holes also,

JOINING SURFACES:

THERE ARE 3 SURFACES IS JOINS TOGETHER USING JOINING COMMAND

AFTER THAT JOINING PROCESS WE HAVE TO TRIM THE CLASS A AND B AND C SURFACES AND THE FINAL OUTPUT SURFACES WILL BE COMES AFTER TRIMING PROCESS.

THEN THE SURFACE PART WILL BE CONVERTED IN TO PLASTIC SOLID COMPONENT USING PART WORK BENCH

DRAFR ANALYSIS OF THE FINAL SOLID PART

3D VISUALS OF FINAL PART:

TREE STRUCTURE:

CONCLUTION:

finally the Base Bracket Plastic component through the given Class-A surface and class b and c surface will be created, And draft analysis will be performed successfully. the final part surface will be thickened for converted into solid plastic part.
