Week 8-3D Tetra Meshing Challenge
Week-8 challenge
Hyper mesh for FEA plastic and sheet metal application.
Objective:
For this week challenge ,you willo have to create 3D meshes for the models provided in the challenge according to the parameters mentioned.
1.TetraMesh Generation Method: 2D to 3D Conversion
Elements sizes: Min- 2 Units, Target- 5 Units, Max- 7 Units
Tet collapse: 0.15
Procedure:
1.Create tetra mesh for housing
- Import housing file by using import geomentry.
- Remove fillet less than 5mm by using defeature command.
- prepare geomentry by using replace point ,toggle edge, splitsurface etc.from quick edit pannel.
- Below immage shows model after geomentry cleanup.
Topology cleanup for housing component:

Hub component after topology cleanup:

- Click on automesh pannel from the 2D element page.Select the surface and put elements type as tria.We will set the target element length as 5units.
- After meshing the surface and ensuring that no element are failing for min and max elemenet length,we can proceed to convert the 2D tria elemenet to 3D tetra elemenet.

- Acess the tetra mesh pannel from 3D page, and then click on tetra mesh subpannel.
- Select the elemenet under fixed tias/quads to tetra mesh.Click mesh to generate the tetrahedral elemenet.

- Use check elemenet pannel and go to the 3D subpannel.Identify elemenets having a tet collapse vale smaller than 0.15.
- Remesh the hubs displayed tetra elements to improve their tetra collapese.Under tetramesh parameters check the minimum tetra and maximum tetra elemenets length box.
- Another method to improve the tet collapse is by using distance option .The elements that failed the tetra collapse check is saved in the user mark by clicking on save failed and can be retrived in mask pannel using the extended slection menu.
- We can increase the distance to improve the tet collapse value.

Conclusion:
- Performed tetrahedral mesh generation by converting the 2D elements into 3D.
- Achived a better mesh by clearing the 3D mesh quality errors.
- For the given model, Create a 3D Tetramesh with the following quality criteria.
2.TetraMesh Generation Method: Quick Tetra Mesh/ Volume Tetra Mesh
Target Element size: 3 Units.
Tet Collapse: 0.15
Objective :
- Use the quick tetra mesh to mesh the geomentry.
- Review the quality of the tetra mesh to validate its intergity.
Procedure:
- Import the .hm fille using the import tool option.
- Obsereve the topology of the geomentry by using the visualization option .Make sure that there are no free edges.

- We can acess the quick tetra menu under view>browser>hypermesh>utility>.go to tetra mesh under tools.
- Select the component and put trias only as mesh type .fill mesh size as 6 units. click the mesh button to mesh the component.

- Use check elements panel and go to the 3D subpanel .Identify ,elemenets having a tet collapse valuE smaller than 0.15.
- Remesh the cranck housing displayed tetra element to improve their tetra collapse .under tetra parameters check the minimum tetra and max tetra elemenet length box.
- Another method to improve the tet collapse is by using distance option .The elements that failed the tetra collapse check is saved in the user mark by clicking on save failed and can be retrived in mask pannel using the extended slection menu.
- We can increase the distance to improve the tet collapse value.
Conclusion:
- 3D mesh generated using the quick tetra method .
- Performed 3D quality check and removed all the elements failling for tet collapse.
- For the given assembly model, Create a 3D Tetramesh with the following quality criteria.
3.TetraMesh Generation Method: Quick Tetra Mesh/ Volume Tetra Mesh
Target Element size: 4 Units.
Tet Collapse: 0.15
Objective:
- Mesh the components using volume tetra meshing technique
- Perform elements quality check on each of the components.
Procedure:
- Import the .hm fille using the import tool option.
- Obsereve the topology of the geomentry by using the visualization option .Make sure that there are no free edges.
- We can acess the quick tetra menu under view>browser>hypermesh>utility>.go to tetra mesh under tools.
- Select the component and put trias only as mesh type .fill mesh size as 4 units. click the mesh button to mesh the component.
