Week 8:- 3D Finishing Challenge 2
Perform 3D finish and create Rough locators for the Assembly design created for the challenge on week 7.
ANS:- 3D finish is process used to ready design for 2D detailing. It is last stage of 3D designing. In this step we have to deatil concentricity of holes, colour coding for different holes, colout for machininng area, etc. Following arw some points consider during 3D finish:-
a. Nominality:- Every assemly has to be done nominal with base plate. This is essential step, as it brings easiness in assembly after manufacturing. In case of pin unit, it may not be possible to bring fixture nominal due to pin cordinate.
b. Colour coding:- We have to colour maching area and all types of hole. Orange colouris given to machining are. For dovel holes dark blue colour is given, for undreaded hole light blue colour is given while for threaded portion yellow colour is applied. This is esssential as it will reduce eoor while manufacturing. It will be easy for operator to understand the type of holes.

c. Fillet:- When we cut material by flame cutting, there will be radius at corners. So we have to define this radius while 3D finish. There will be exception for machinning are, as while machining this fillet will get machined. 3mm of fillet is provided for less than 50mm thickness of material, while 5mm of fillet is provided for more than 50mm thickness of material.

d. Concentricity:- All holes provided for fastening or dovel purpose need to be concentric. We need to ensure it.

Rough Locator:- It guides panel while loading on fixture. It starts guiding panel 15-20mm above. It has 30-40 degree of bend outward which provides easiness while loading of panel. It is generally 2-3 mm away from car panel. It may be of rod type or plate depending upon space constrain. It is very simple in design, but it's function is important.
