Week 7 Challenge
Solution:
Modeling a vehicle model in Simulink involves representing the dynamic behavior of the vehicle using mathematical equations and Simulink blocks.
Forces acting on a vehicle.
- Tractive Force: the force exerted by a vehicle's wheels on the ground to propel the vehicle forward. It is the force that overcomes resistance (such as rolling resistance, aerodynamic drag, and gravitational forces) to move the vehicle.
- Rolling resistance Force: the force that opposes the motion of a vehicle's tires as they roll along the surface of the road. It is caused by the deformation of the tire and the interaction between the tire and the road surface.
- Grade Force: also known as grade resistance or gravitational force, is the force experienced by a vehicle when driving on an incline or decline. It is caused by the gravitational pull on the vehicle and acts parallel to the surface of the road.
- Aerodynamic drag force: the resistance encountered by a moving object due to the friction and pressure exerted by air molecules as the object moves through the air.
Formulas used in the model:
Rolling Resistance, Fr = M * g * µ * cos(α)
Grade Resistance ,Fg = M*g*sin(α)
Aerodynamic drag, Fad = 0.5 * Cd * Af * ρ * V^2
Total Force = Traction Force - (Fr+Fg+Fad)
Where,
M - Mass of the vehicle
g - acceleration due to gravity
µ - rolling resistance coefficient
Cd - Drag coefficient
Af - Frontal area of the vehicle
ρ - air density
V - velocity of vehicle
