Week 7- Base Unit Design Challenges 2

Design a Base Unit for the units designed for the above challenges with all weldments for the given Car Panel.

ANS:- Base unit is use for assemlbing all the fixture units.BAse unit holds all the fixture stadily. It is made up of different weldments. Square frame is also provided to support base plate. Square frame can absorb heavy load of fixtures and supports base plate. We neeed to consider standard sq. Pipes available, So that assemlby will be easy. Following are components of base unit:-

a. Base plate:- It is flat machined plate. It is around 25-40mm thick. It should cover periphery of every fixture. It should be drilled with datum or measuring holes. It is either steel or aluminun plate depending upon application and load to carry out.

b. Pedestal:- It connects base plate to floor unit. It raises height of base plate. It is generally of sq. section pipe. Generally it is placed at four corners. But according to depend on load to carry more padestals can be use. Again it is standard component so its length is only consideration. It's length depends on ergonomics of human body. Ot it can be adjusted according to robotic use. Pedestals welded to floor plate and fastened to basel plate.

c. Floor Plate:- This plate is mounted to the ground. Pedestal welds over floor plate. Floor plate have threaded hole which is use for adjusting height of whole unit. It is generally use for leveling purpose. It is flat machined plate. It fixes whole assemly steadily so it must withstand all the load. It's design is not complex.

d. Trunking channel:- It is channel made up of aluminium, or plastic of very less thickness. It is like sq. tube structure. Different wires, cables needed needed for operation of fixture is passes through trunking channel. It is simple in design bt care must be taken that it should not obstruct other parts of fixture while operation.
