Week 6 - CHT Analysis on a Graphics card

Aim: Perform CHT analysis on graphics card by Varying velocity input and refining mesh

Graphics card

Graphics card also called Graphics processing unit, is responsible for calculating images in a computer which can then be displayed on a monitor. The graphics card can either installed on the motherboard of a computer that is connected an external component.

Simulations Steps

Geometry

Import geometry into spaceclaim and encloser is already created. Do share topology it helps to fine meshing

Mesh

Default mesh size

Setup

Pressure based solver-abusulute velocity -staedy time- K epsilon- energy turned on

Inlet velocity 1m/s, 5 m/s, 10 m/s

I selected Heat generation power is 10W

1561250000 W/m3

Material

fluid

  • For enclouser-air fluid

solid

  • For graphics card base steel
  • Fins- aluminium
  • processor copper

Define what are the results we need.

Velocity at 1 m/s

Results

Case Given Inlet velocity m/s Max. Temp in K Max. Heat transfer coefficient W(m3k) Max. Velocity in m/s
Default mesh 1 422 1766 1.21
Refined mesh 5 383 2140 6.22
Refined mesh 10 345 3142 12.4

Conclusion

When we doing refining mesh and varying input velocity the results going different, we observe the results in Tables. finally we performed CHT analysis on a graphics card
