Week-6 Challenge: EV Drivetrain

1. Which types of power converter circuits are employed in electric and hybrid electric vehicle?

2. An Electric Vehicle's powertrain with 72V battery pack in shown in the diagram below. The duty ratio for acceleration operation is 'd1' and for the braking operation the duty ratio is 'd2'.

Which types of power converter circuits are employed in electric and hybrid electric vehicle?

A electric motor drive consists of a power convereter and the power controller ,controller handles the flow of bulk power from the source to the motor terminal ,the controller is used to process the command input and the feedback informaton to get generate the switching signals for power converter semiconductor switches ,the power converter can be a DC drive spplying the dc motor or an ac drivge motor,A DC/DC converter is used to convert the unregulated power to specified regulated power to control the speed of the motor with very high conversion efficiencies, operated in very high frequency by the technology of pulse width modulation signal.

the power converter is made up of fast switching devices such as MOSFET,IGBT,SCR,GTO,MCT which are used to hire for the fast switching application for the speed control of the vehicle motor making variable voltage/amplitude or variable frequency drive.

in the electric and hybrid electric vehicle, there are few types of power converters are used which are

DC/AC converters:

AC/AC converters

DC/DC converters

AC/DC converters

MATRIX converters

HYBRID MATRIX converters

2. An Electric Vehicle's powertrain with 72V battery pack in shown in the diagram below. The duty ratio for acceleration operation is 'd1' and for the braking operation the duty ratio is 'd2'.
