Week 6 Challenge

1)

Aim: To design a chequered plate to carry a uniformly distributed Factored live load of 15 kN/m2. Consider the plate is spanned with a dimension of 1200 mm x 5000 mm with all edges fixed. (Refer Roarks chart table 11.4)

Procedure:

Result: A chequered plate with the dimension of 1200 mm x 5000 mm x 1 mm is designed to carry a uniformly distributed Factored live load of 15 kN/m2.

3)

Aim: To draw the load path and identify the Axial force type in a different type of bracing system below to resist horizontal shear & gravity load. Also, state the type of bracing system

Procedure:

First Bracing System:

Axial Force Type: Lateral force or Horizontal force with pinned support

Bracing Type: Diagonal Bracing in that diagonal brace back.

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through Beams and Bracings.

Second Bracing System:

Axial Force Type: Lateral force or Horizontal force with pinned support

Bracing Type: K type Bracing

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through Bracings.

Third Bracing System:

Axial Force Type: Lateral force or Horizontal force with pinned support

Bracing Type: X type bracing

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through Bracings.

Fourth Bracing System:

Axial Force Type: Lateral force or Horizontal force with pinned support

Bracing Type: Eccentric type bracing

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through Bracings.

Fifth Bracing System:

Bracing System: Single Diagonal

Axial Force Type: Gravity force or Vertical force with pinned support

Bracing Type: K-type bracing

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through columns only.

Sixth Bracing System:

Bracing System: Single Diagonal

Axial Force Type: Gravity force or Vertical force with pinned support.

Bracing Type: Diagonal bracing in that diagonal brace back.

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through Beams, Columns, and Bracings.

Seventh Bracing System:

Bracing System: X Brace

Axial Force Type: Gravity force or Vertical force with pinned support

Bracing Type: X type bracing

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through Beams, Columns, and Bracings.

Eighth Bracing System:

Bracing System: Chevron System

Axial Force Type: Gravity force or Vertical force with pinned support

Bracing Type: Eccentric type bracing

Load Path: Load Transfer is happening through Columns.

Result: Types of Bracing System, type of axial loading in members, and loading path is successfully shown in the figure.
