Challenge

Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

OBJECTIVE:

The objective of the project is to do a geometrical clean UP and to delete unwanted surfaces on all the three given model ( ENGINE , GEAR BOX , AND TRANSMETION ) and to merge them to performe a surface wrap to create water tight mesh .

TOOLS USE :

TOPO

  • universal > DELETE : to delete unwanted surface on the models
  • CURVES > DELETE: to delete unwanted curves present on the given model
  • HOT POINTS > insert : to insert hotpoints if needed
  • HOT POINTS > DELETE : to delete unwanted hot points

SURFACE MESH

  • ELEMENTS>WRAP : to performe surface wrap > CONSTANT LENGTH to define the desiered mesh length

PROCEDURE:

  1. since we just going to do surface wrap we no nee to be about all the unwanted surfaces cons curves inside the models
  2. we just have to clear all the elements which are present outsid the body
  3. To create a water tight geometry we have to clear all the tripple and single cons that are present on the outside of the body so that they dont create any issue while performing surface wrap

GIVEN MODEL

1. ENGINE

2. GEARBOX

3. TRANSMISSION

ENGINE CLEAN UP

  • All the surfaces are clean up and the unnecessary pipes that were present are all also deleted our engine model is redy to be marged with other models

GEARBOX CLEAN UP

  • ALL the tripple cons that were present are cleared

TRANSMISSION CLEAN UP

  • ALL the tripple cons that were present are cleared

ASSEMBLY:

  • since we have do surface wrap on all the thre models combined we have to merge all the models together using MERGE COMMAND
  • first we have to merge transmission with engine and then gear box
  • when select the models to be marged a pop up will appear in that we have to select merge with current model under model action and every offsets and confflicts resolution should be se to offset then a wearing pop up will come up showing if there any errors while assemly ( merge ) wraping

  • after all the models are merged we have to close all the holes present in all the bodies in order to get a water tight body using
  • MENUBAR>TOPO>FACES>NEW>PLANNER >LOOP

MESHING:

  • To performe surface wrap ELEMENTS>WRAP>CONSTANT LENGTH a pop up will come up with constant wrap octree as empty by double clicking it a pop up to edit the constant wrap octree will appear to define the name and the target length of the mesh type and wrap mode
  • Then it will go back to wrap edit windoes there by double clicking octree a pop up with all the PIDs will come up there we have select all the PIDs the ok
  • i will take back to octree edit window with all the contents selected the we have to RUN to performe the surface wrap
  • since our whole model is big it will take some time

  • TARGET LENGTH I GIVE 5MM of SURFACE WRAP

  • USING CONTROL A TO SELECT ALL THE PIDs AND THEN CLICK THE GREEN ARROW TO MOVE OTHER SIDE AS SHOW IN FIG

RESULTS:

  • Frome the image we can clearly see that our whole model is fully surface wraped without any errors

LEARNING OUTCOMES :

  • learnt how to performe a surface wrap
  • learnt how to merge diffrent models
  • got about water tight geometry

CONCLUSION :

  • The geometry clean up of all the models are done perfectly
  • All the models are merged together to performe surface wrap is done of the 5 mm target length
