Week 4- Rolling operation
Aim -We will have to simulate the rolling operation on a workpiece made of copper. We have to increase the length of the workpiece by 60mm and decrease its size on both sides by 8mm.
We have to run the simulation for 14 steps and Ensure that the edge of the workpiece is displaced by 90mm.
To find
- Equivalent stress for the whole setup
- Equivalent Plastic strain for the workpiece
- Directional Deformation in the Z axis for the workpiece
- Prove that the workpiece has displaced by 90mm (Hint: It's mentioned in the video)
Procedure -
1. Import the step file and make necessary changes in space claim as per question.
2. In Material selection panel, we have to select Copper NL and structural steel.
3. Meshing has to be done as program controlled but element size of 2 mm has to be given to the workpeice.
4. Under contacts, we have to give frictional contact between roller and workpeice with 0.1 coeff of friction.
5. We have to give cylindrical joints to roller inside surfaces one by one.
6. With 14 steps in Analysis controls, and enrgy dissapation ration of 0.1, we have to solve this model.
7. We have to give rotaion to both the roller one by one and displacement to workpeice in order to simulate this.
Result and discussion: Asked results are as follows.

From the above discussion we can conclude that total deformation values closely matches with the displacement values inputed. Hence it is prooved that workpeice has displaced by 90mm.
