Challenge

Week 4- Rolling operation

Rolling operation

AIM : For this challenge, you will have to simulate the rolling operation on a workpiece made of copper. The model will be provided to you. Increase the length of the workpiece by 60mm and decrease its size on both sides by 8mm. Run the simulation for 14 steps and you can give small but random values( similar to the ones mentioned in the video) for the displacement. Ensure that the edge of the workpiece is displaced by 90mm.

PROCESS:

  • Download the model and import into geometry
  • Click on the Engineering data & open non-linear general materials
  • Add copper NL into materials

  • open the geometry and work on to Increase the length of the workpiece by 60mm and decrease its size on both sides by 8mm.
  • Use pull option to work this

  • Update the model and open it

  • Select the geometry and rename based on Geometry
  • Select sheet and in material section change it to Copper NL

  • Create the connections Between workpiece & Rollers as frictional

  • Create the joints as revolvet for the rollers

  • In mesh put body sizing on workpiece To get better analysis on it

  • Add the analytic settings as given with 14 time steps

  • Put displacement as Folled

  • Rotation joint for roller1

  • Rotation joint for roller2

  • Add the solutions as requested in the analysis
  • Equivalent stress for the whole setup

We GOT STRESS AS 12.872MPa

  • Equivalent Plastic strain for the workpiece

WE GOT Equivalent Plastic strain as 0MPa

  • Directional Deformation in the Z axis for the workpiece

WE GOT Directional Deformation in the Z axis as 0.0030027mm

  • Prove that the workpiece has displaced by 90mm

Thus the displacement is proved as it is selected in Y-axis.
