Week 4:- Pin Unit Design Challenge

Provide Aim/Introduction of the challenge, add theoretical content and explanation about each topics relevant to the challenge in your Report

Aim- To design 2 Fixed Pin Units with necessary parts for provided panel.

Introduction-

Location of part on fixture at perfect position is a vital important. It helps to further processing accurate and error free.

Hence locating devices plays an important role in a fixture.

Parameters-

Pin unit is a unit designed to locate a panel on fixture for specific operation.

A pin unit should be designed in such a way that it should be arrest all degrees of freedom of Car panel.

Round and Diamond Pin are used for this purpose.

Generally a round Pin arrests 4 degrees of freedom in a round hole, and 2 degrees of freedm in a slotted hole.

A diamond Pin arrests 2 degrees of freedom in a round hole, and 4 degrees of freedm in a slotted hole.

Min Engangement dist should be between 3 to 5 mm.

All pins hould be arresting two directions using shims.

Depending on type of position of pin on cylinder, there are two types of pin units as Fixed Pin Unit and Retractable Pin Unit.

A pin unit, in which pin position is fix, is called Fixed Pin Unit.

Different Parts of the Fixed Pin Unit-

L-Block-

-Riser- A part, giving height to the structure.

- Blade- A part supports NC block.

- Spacer (Shim)- A part for adjusting height of fixed pin unit. It is a standard part.

Two direction adjustments are required for pin fixed pin unit, in horizontal as well as vertical direction.

Also, Round Pin is used to control panel in two directions while Diamond Pin is used to control panel in one direction.

Retractable Pin Unit-

Inline Retractable Pin Unit

This Pin unit consists of one Pin cylinder which operates the pin in one direction.

In this unit Pin is mounted directly on the cylinder.

The pin and cylinder must be in line with the hole or slot of the panel.

Pin cylinder is controlled in two tranverse directions with the help of shimming.

Offset Retractable Pin unit-

This Pin Unit consist one Pin cylinder which operates the pin in one direction, Pin is is not inline with cylinder.

Pin is mounted on the Pin retainer.

Pin is controlled in two directions with the help of shimming.

how to dsign: Pin Diameter is hole diameter on panel.

For Fixed Pin Unit, 1 Round PIn, 1 diamond Pin are designed.

As per Pin Height, and gap between panel and base, other parts are deisgned.

For Retratable pin Units,

round and diamond pins are designes with two retractable cylinders.

1 is inline and another offset type.

Tunkers Cylinders with 40 mm stroke are selected.
