WOT Condition

Week 4 Challenge

Q1. What is the difference between mapped and dynamic model of engine, motor and generator? How can you change model type?

Mapped Model

Dynamic Model

Engine

Mapping done using Look Up Table

Steady State Operation is presented

All details given for engine

Transient conditions can be presented

Generator / Motor

Data is available

Based on Look up Table / Data Sheet

Static Model

Steady Set Operation is presented

Actual Model

Dynamic Model

Transient operation is also presented

Inverter model is presented

The model can be changed using variant manager : -

Q2. How does the model calculate miles per gallon? Which factors are considered to model fuel flow?

Ans: Following factors are considered :

  1. Vehicle Speed : This is integrated to calculate the distance covered.
  2. Fuel Flow : This is integrated to get the net fuel used by vehicle
  3. Battery Power : The battery power consumed is converted to equivalent fuel per gallon and this is added to the net quantity of fuel consumed.

Q3. Run the HEV ReferenceApplication with WOT drive cycle. Change the grade and wind velocity in the environment block. Comment on the results.

Case 1 : Wind Speed = 0 and Grade = 0 WOT : (0 - 50 Sec)

Time to achieve ref speed (67.1 mph)

10.78 sec

Change in SOC

80% to 73.2% (In 10.78 sec)

Peak Battery Current

500 A

Engine

Does not start as SOC is greater than 70%

Case 2 : Wind Speed = 0 and Grade = 10 WOT : (0 - 50 Sec)

Time to achieve ref speed (67.1 mph)

29.75 sec

Change in SOC

80% to 66% (In 29.75 sec)

Peak Battery Current

500 A

Engine

Starts at 12.5 sec when SOC drops below 70%

Case 3 : Wind Speed = 20 and Grade = 10 WOT : (0 - 50 Sec)

Time to achieve ref speed (67.1 mph)

Cannot achieve the speed

Change in SOC

80% to 57.8% (In 70 sec)

Peak Battery Current

500 A

Engine

Starts at 16.8 sec when SOC drops below 70%

Q4. Keeping all other parameters same, compare the simulated results of hybrid and pure electric powertrains.

Hybrid Model (FTP75 Driving Cycle)

Electric Model (FTP75 Driving Cycle)

Time for maximum acceleration : 78.65 sec

Time for maximum acceleration : 80.33 sec

SOC at end of cycle : 73.3 %

SOC at end of cycle : 71.7 %

Maximum Motor Speed : 6744 RPM

Maximum Motor Speed : 5852 RPM

Maximum Battery Current : 168 A

Maximum Battery Current : 96 A

Maximum Motor Torque : 125 Nm

Maximum Motor Torque : 106 Nm

Fuel Economy at end of cycle : 37 MPGe

Fuel Economy at end of cycle : 185.2 MPGe

WOT (Time to achieve target 60 MPH) = 8.96 sec

WOT (Time to achieve target 60 MPH) = 11 sec
