Week 4 Challenge

1)

Aim: To classify the given sections as Plastic, Compact, Semi- Compact or Slender.

Procedure:

Result: Hence, the Sections are classified as follows

  • ISMB 500 ...................................... Plastic
  • ISMC 200 ...................................... Plastic
  • PG 1300 x 450 x 20 x 12.................. Compact
  • Double Angle................................... Semi Compact
  • Rectangular Hollow section................ Plastic
  • Built up Box..................................... Plastic.

2)

Aim: To find the effective length of the Rafter made up of Built-up I section.

Procedure:

Result: Effective length of the rafter is determined and equal to 977.5 mm.

3)

Aim: To determine the deflection in the beam for the given conditions and find the flexure stiffness for the given value of deflection.

Procedure:

Result: Deflection and the flexure stiffness for the given beam and loading conditions have been obtained as :

i) Deflection = 0.0639 mm

ii) Deflection = 0.6368 mm

iii) Flexural Stiffness = 26 x 10^7 Nm2

4)

Aim: To design a beam for a given loading condition and determine its moment-carrying capacity.

Procedure:

Result: Hence, an ISWB 600 @ 133.7 kg/m can be chosen as it is safe in Shear, Moment, Deflection, Buckling, and Bearing.

5)

Aim: To design channel purlin for the given conditions.

Procedure:

Result: Hence, we will use ISMC 200 as it is safe in shear, moment, and deflection.
