Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Solution 1: In the Advisor tool, EV_defaults i.e, pure EV vehicle is selected and cargo mass is changed to 500kg, total weight amounting to 1508kg with all other parameters kept as default as shown:

Now the drive cycle is selected as FTP. As each drive cycle of FTP is around 17km, so 3 such drive cycle is added as shown.

Result/Observation: We can see in the result graph, the vehicle could not complete the set distance of 53km. It stopped at 41.4km as the ESS soc becomes zero after reaching this distance. This means the entire battery is drained after completing a distance of 41.4km with cargo load of 500kg.
Hence the vehicle cannot travel 45km with FTP drive cycle carrying 500kg.

Solution 2: Now to the same EV with the same battery, power is increased to 30kW from 25kW. This increases the weight of the vehicle too and hence the load on the vehicle.

Keeping all other conditions same, the simulation is run again for 3 FTP drive cycle and the result is shown below:

Result/Observation: We can see in the result graph, the vehicle stopped after covering the distance of 49.1km as the ESS soc becomes zero after reaching this distance. This means the entire battery is drained after completing this distance with cargo load of 500kg.
Hence the vehicle can travel 45km with FTP drive cycle carrying 500kg if the battery power is increased sufficiently.
Solution 3: Gradeability test is perfomed with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults parallel hybrid vehicle and the below results are obtain by changing the speed value in “Grade Option” menu. Now we can observe that the maximum possible Gradeability obtained is 2.5% and the maximum speed at this gradeability is 64.4kmph.

Result/Observation: From the figure, we can see the SOC comes down to 50% and then no more power is delivered by the battery. On increasing the speed, gradeability decreases as the available power is limited as shown in the table below:
