Challenge

Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

  • After opening the Advisor tool, I chose EV_Defaults_in from Load file Section. And the Model appears.

We can see the default parameters in the below pic.

  • Now changed Cargo Weight to 500 kg

  • Chosen Driving Cycle CYC_FTP and ran the Simulation for 1 driving cycle

Results:

As we can see that,

For 1 cycle,

  • The Vehicle able to cover the distance of 11 miles which is 17.7 km
  • State of Charge almost down to 65% after 2500secsWe can tell that at one driving cycle Vehicle is unable to acheive 45 km with 500Kg Cargo load.

Now Changed the Cycle to 4 nos. Now we will test 4 driving cycles.

For 4 cycles,

We can see that at almost 5500 secs Battery got fully discharged. Vehicle achieved 25.7 miles which is 41.36014 km.

We can conclude that with 500kg cargo load Vehicle can't acheive 45 km.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Now Chosen ESS_PB_25_IDEAL: 25 Modules, Nominal Voltage of 308 V

keeping all other parameters same and ran the Simulation.

Results:

As we can see that The Vehicle achieved the distance of 28.7 miles which is 46.1 Km just after 6000 secs. And after 6000 secs the Battery charged got nullified/discharged.

That means with Larger Capacity of Energy Storage the Vehicle can acheive the distance of 45 Km.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

The Toyota Prius is a car built by Toyota which has a hybrid drivetrain, combining an internal combustion engine with an electric motor.

Now , we will perform gradeability test using ADVISOR tool

  • Chosen PRIUS_JPN_DEFAULTS Model from Load File option. Kept all parameters same. We going to work with default parameters.
  • Click Continue now the next window opens.

  • Next Window, we can observe that the default Driving Cycle is CYC_UDDS and if we go to the Gradeability test box and ticked the box we can see that the default speed is 55 mph(88.51Kmph)
  • Run the Simulation.

Results:

We can see that, at 55 mph the gradeability is 1.7%

Now Changed the Speed to 40mph (64.4 Kmph) and run the simulation.

Result:

We can see that, at 40 mph the gradeability is 2.5%

Now Changed the Speed to 80mph (128.7 Kmph) and run the simulation.

Result:

We can see that, at 80 mph the gradeability is 0.3%

So, We have tested the Gradeability of TOYOTA Prius at different Speed Levels and observed the results. A table is attached here with.

Sl no Duration(secs) Speed(mph) Gradeability in %

1

10 55 1.7

2

10 40 2.5

3

10 80 0.3
