Explain the various applications of Power converters in an Electric vehicle. For Example, what type of converter will you use for Horn which requires DC and less than 10V. Likewise come up with different applications.

Power Converters used in EV are:

AC to DC Converter: These Converters are used to convert AC to DC.

Example: Rectifier

Uses: EV charger

DC to AC: These Converters are used to convert DC to AC.

Example: Inverter

Uses: EV Motor Drive

DC to DC: These Converters are used to convert DC to DC.

Uses: EV Auxiliaries/Infotainment system

Mainly Two Kind of DC-to-DC Converters:

a) Isolated: I/P side and O/P side Electrically isolated, that means O/P Polarity not being influenced by I/P.

Example: Flyback, Half - Bridge Rectifier, Full Bridge Rectifier

b) Non-Isolated: I/P side and O/P side Electrically connected

Buck: For Stepping down Voltage

Example: Chopper

Boost: For Stepping Up Voltage

What type of converter will you use for Horn which requires DC and less than 10V.

lets say, 400V Battery Source is using in EV and Extra 12 V battery used for Auxiliaries Supply. To get the Voltage less than 10V we need to Step down Voltage. so,we going to use DC to DC Converter (Chopper) to step down voltage.
