Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
answer:

In the aforementioned illustration, a battery-electric car is modelled with the following details:Energy storage: 25 Lead Acid battery modules with a nominal voltage of 308 V and a motor efficiency of 0.92.
Motor: 75kW AC induction motor
Manual transmission
Drive: Front-wheel propulsion
Vehicle Mass: 500 kg

The driving cycle CYC FTP, which is 17.7 km in length, is then entered. In order to completely drain the battery to SOC = 0% for determining the range of the vehicle, 4 driving cycles are repeated. As a result, the vehicle will go 70.8 km overall, allowing us to determine the distance at which the SOC is 0.

The drive cycle for the car is depicted in the first plot, the SOC decline over time is depicted in the second plot, and the power output is shown in the third and fourth graphs in accordance with the throttle situation.
Hence, after running the simulation, we can see that, the SOC gets zero after aproximately 2.5 drive cycles. The distance driven by automobile, as indicated on the right, is 41.4 kilometres. As a result, the car cannot cover 45 kilometres on a single charge.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
answer:

The identical starting conditions from question 1 are used in this instance, and the battery capacity will be modified to accelerate the car and increase its km of travel.
-Increasing the vehicle's battery capacity
Therefore, 3 additional battery modules have been added, bringing the total number of modules to 28 and the nominal voltage to 345 V, in order to achieve a range of 45 km.

The vehicle covers a distance of 46.5 km in the image above. Therefore, based on the problem description, 28 battery modules are enough to cover a range of 45 km.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
answer:

gradeablity at 48.3 kmph is 2%
A gradeability of 2% at 48 km/h means that the vehicle can climb a slope with an incline of 2% while maintaining a speed of 48 km/h. The steeper the slope, the more power and torque the vehicle's motor needs to have in order to maintain its speed.
Whether a gradeability of 2% at 48 km/h is considered good or not depends on the specific context and the requirements of the vehicle. For example, if the vehicle is expected to frequently operate on steep slopes, a higher gradeability would be desirable. On the other hand, if the vehicle is mainly used on relatively flat terrain, a lower gradeability may be sufficient.

gradeablity at 48.3 kmph is 3%

gradeablity at 48.3 kmph is 4%

gradeablity at 84 kmph is 6%
