Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle?
Conclude your observations - :
- The Advisor Tool model is being shown below - :

- DRIVE CYCLE: CYC_FTP ;
- NO. OF CYCLES: 3 ;

- Result of the Advisor Tool model - :

- Conclusion - :
- Thus we can see that for 3 number of cycles at the given conditions the vehicle can travel for only 25.70 mph and when converted to
kilometers then it travels 41.3km.
- If we increase the number of cycles, then the vehicle can travel above 45km.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation - :
- The Advisor Tool model is being shown below - :

- In the above simulation we have changed the battery capacity from 25 to 50V.
- Result of the Advisor Tool model - :

- Conclusion - :
- We can see that by increasing the battery capacity the vehicle can travel for more than 33.1 mph and when converted to kilometers then it
travels 53kms in the same number of drive cycles.
- Similarly when we decrease the battery capacity the vehicle travels a lesser distance.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in table and conclude - :
- The Advisor Tool model is being shown below - :

- SPEED: 50mph
- Fully electric - :

- Result of the Advisor Tool model - :

- Conclusion - :
- At 50mph Gradeability for fully electric vehicles is 9.7 % resp.
- At 50mph Gradeability for hybrid vehicles is 9.7 % resp.
- At 50mph Gradeability for IC engine vehicles is 2 % resp.
- SPEED: 50mph
- IC Engine - :

- Result of the Advisor Tool model - :

- Conclusion - :
- At 50mph Gradeability for fully electric vehicles is 9.7 % resp.
- At 50mph Gradeability for hybrid vehicles is 9.7 % resp.
- At 50mph Gradeability for IC engine vehicles is 2 % resp.
- Now again do the same simulation by changing the speed to 25mph - :
- Speed 25mph
- Fully Electric - :

- Result of the Advisor Tool model - :

- Conclusion - :
- At 25mph Gradeability for fully electric vehicles is 16.5 % resp.
- At 25mph Gradeability for hybrid vehicles is 16.5 % resp.
- At 25mph Gradeability for IC engine vehicles is nill % resp.
- Speed 25mph
- Hybrid - :

- Conclusion - :
- At 25mph Gradeability for fully electric vehicles is 16.5 % resp.
- At 25mph Gradeability for hybrid vehicles is 16.5 % resp.
- At 25mph Gradeability for IC engine vehicles is nill % resp.
- Speed 25mph
- IC Engine - :

- Result of the Advisor Tool model - :

- Conclusion - :
- At 25mph Gradeability for fully electric vehicles is 16.5 % resp.
- At 25mph Gradeability for hybrid vehicles is 16.5 % resp.
- At 25mph Gradeability for IC engine vehicles is nill % resp.
- COMPARISSION TABLE - :

- Conclusion - :
- The required problems have been solved and justified with appropriate results. The cargo mass change resulted in the change in the overall
weight of the system and initial battery voltage is not sufficient to travel 45 km and therefore, the voltage of the battery was increased to 50
V to reach the desired distance, but this is a compromise with the overall weight. Since, to achieve the distance the weight of the system has
to be increased. Gradeability test on Prius is conducted by varying the speed from 50mph to 25mph and is observed that the speed and
gradeability are inversely proportional to each other.
